The development of Zebra fish.

 W.A.L.T observe the development of a zebra fishes eye and describe how its changed and what changed.

Our school has recently been learning about genomics.Our last lesson on genomics was about what Zebra fish is used for and the development of a zebra fishes eye.Our task was to look at three different zebra fish all different ages and observe the development of the eye,how it changes and if it developed anything new.We also learnt about what scientist use zebra fish for.Scientist use zebra fish to study human development,because the zebra fish is transparent the scientist can see all the cells and all the organs it also make's it easier for the scientist to watch the development.

I enjoyed learning about this because it was fun to look at all the different zebra fish and look at how they developed it was actually pretty cool.

I wonder which cell in their body makes them be able to develop fast?

Origin of life /Darwin's theory.

 W.A.L.T Understand the meaning of the origin of life and how we evolved from a single living organism that came from and asteroid. 

Manaia ,TK and I made this mind map about how life first began and then linked all our ideas up to the tree of life and our common ancestors.We learnt about how an asteroid came to earth and brought Amino Acids and sugars.We learnt that those Acids and sugars mixed with earths chemistry and created the first single cell living organism.That cell is our common ancestor its at the start of the tree of life!!!

I enjoy learning about our ancestors and learning about the cells in our body.I enjoy learning about the tree of life and our common ancestors!!! I cant wait for the next lesson.

Thought flow: This makes me think about all the other asteroids /meteorites that have Amino acids and sugars  and other minerals and have they hit other planets... is there other life somewhere?

Explaining genomics.

W.A.L.T Understand the meaning of genomics and DNA.

we had an expert that came up from Auckland to teach us all about genomics.We learnt about the cells in our body and how each cell has two,one is from your dad and one is from your mum.We learnt what DNA stands for and it stands for Deoxiribo Nucleic Acid.We talked about how we evolved and how we are 99.9% identical from everyone else.

What made me think hard while learning about genomics was when we were learning about  how different we are from each other and what we evolved from.
